WEST Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner Bill Longmore has thrown his support behind a scheme which will see local authorities across the region band together to save costs.

A final business case is being developed for the Worcestershire Joint Property Vehicle, which could see Worcester City Council, Worcestershire County Council, West Mercia and Warwickshire Police, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and Redditch Borough Council form an independent company to run property services.

At a meeting of the Warwickshire and West Mercia Police Alliance Governance Group on Friday, April 12 the two forces agreed to support the further development of the plan.

Mr Longmore, who chaired the meeting alongside his counterpart from Warwickshire Ron Ball, said: “I fully support the outline business case for this project and look forward to seeing the detail submitted in the future.

“This still remains subject to the full approval of the final business case.

“However I am committed to ensuring every penny of public money is spent to maximise public protection and this provides opportunities worthy of consideration.”
