STUDENTS from a school in Stratford have been inspired by the past and present of Alcester to create wonderful works of art that will be displayed in the town.

The youngsters, who attend Stratford upon Avon School, started their 'Something Old Something New' themed masterpieces in lessons earlier in the year after being invited by the Alcester branch of Shakespeare Hospice to take part in a project aimed to brighten up their shop front.

The hospice is an independent charity providing specialist care for families affected by life limiting illnesses in South Warwickshire and the North Cotswolds.

School staff member Sally Sealy said: "With the outline theme ‘Old and New’ as a starting point, students have added their own unique interpretations to the title, exploring both the architectural and human history of the town.

"Passers-by can look forward to a miscellany of work including Alcester Fowler by Lloyd Kendrick-Culbert, a striking perspective painting depicting the fowler class 3F train and a reminder of the days when a train line used to run through Alcester.

"There is also a vibrant eye catching painting of Alcester Church, a history of fashion based on the stylish thrifty fashions available in the hospice's charity shop as well as a doily and graphite combination in honour of Alcester’s many cafes."

Each piece will be exhibited for a week at a time over the next fifteen weeks with the exhibition concluding in mid-July.
