A COMMUNITY fundraiser at the RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre & Hospital, who lives in Church Hill North, really is going that extra mile to raise vital funds for the animal charity.

Helen Tuite aims to raise £2,014 by taking part in 14 charity events this year, which include four half marathons and two triathlons, amongst other things.

Miss Tuite said: "I have been running for a while now, but started training in earnest in January. Although having not ridden a bike or swam for years, it means training six days a week.

"Working here at the centre, I can see first hand how hard everyone works, and I can guarantee that every penny we receive goes towards the welfare of all the abandoned and ill treated animals that come through our doors.

"My final event will be the Great Birmingham Run in October, where we are also looking for 50 people to take part in this event for the RSPCA - so I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who'd like to join me and 'Team RSPCA Birmingham' in that."

One of the animals the centre has been caring for, since December, is Moo, a crossbreed who is approximately four years old. After her initial shyness, RSPCA staff say she has proved to be a very sweet natured dog, is very affectionate with people and gets on with other dogs.

If anyone would like to give Moo a new, loving home, they can contact the centre on 0300 123 8585 between 11am and 3pm any day except Tuesday.
