SOME Redditch, Bromsgrove and Droitwich schools will be closed or partially closed on Wednesday, (March 26), when teachers walk out on strike.

The one day strike involves members of the National Union for Teachers (NUT).

Among the schools closing for the day are Aston Fields Middle School, Catshill First School and Nursery, Catshill Middle School, Chaddesley Corbett Endowed Primary School, and Walkwood CE Middle School.

Several schools are expected to be only partially closed during the walkout.

In Redditch, Beech Class at Abbeywood First School is to be closed all day to pupils while its Maple Class will close at 1pm.

Only Class 11, year four, is to be affected at Crown Meadow First School and Nursery.

Ridgeway Middle School is set to close to youngsters in year five, seven and eight, although year six will be open as normal.

At Westacre Middle School, in Droitwich, classes are to close to all year seven children and selected classes in year five.

South Bromsgrove High School will open to all year groups, except year nine, while Rigby Hall School will open only to primary and 4GMY pupils.

Parents can view updates to school closures by visiting Worcestershire County Council's website - worcestershire.gov.uk.

The strike action was announced over teachers' concerns about pay, pensions, jobs and workload.

The NUT says teachers are demoralised and face unacceptably long working hours and the prospect of having to pay more into pensions and work for longer to receive them.

Last month, Christine Blower, NUT's general secretary, said: “Two in five teachers are leaving the profession within five years due to intolerable workload pressures, performance related pay, increased pensions contributions and working until 68.

"Our concerns have to be addressed if a crisis in teacher supply is to be avoided."

Another teaching union, the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT), pulled out of the strike.
