AS PART of Dementia Awareness Week organisations and businesses in Alcester are being encouraged to organise events that will raise awareness of the condition.

These could include coffee mornings (or afternoons), talks, bite-size awareness sessions or innovative approaches to raising awareness such as a pop-up dementia café, sing-songs or anything else that will get spark an interest and get people talking about dementia.

The week takes place between 18-24 May and Warwickshire County Council and the Alzheimer’s Society want organisations and businesses to consider how they can get involved and make the week one to remember.

County councillor Jose Compton, portfolio holder for adult social care, said: “One of the many triumphs of the Dementia Partnership has been the cooperation of experts from a hugely diverse range of organisations and businesses.

With dementia awareness week approaching, I hope that we can continue to count on this cooperation in delivering a week of interesting events that further raise awareness of dementia and associated conditions which are one of the biggest challenges facing society today.”

The theme of this year’s Dementia Awareness Week is ‘What's On Your Mind?’ and the events that are planned should offer an opportunity for local people to come together and find out more information about dementia or to find the information or support that is available in the local community.

Those interested in becoming involved will be provided with a resource pack and will be supported to promote their event.
