A YOUNG fishmonger is reeling in a shark to help raise money to repair an ancient church, near Inkberrow.

Harry Dyke plans to donate the proceeds from a 'Guess the Weight of A Shark'  competition  to the Abbots Morton Bell Tower Fund

Mr Dyke is a fourth generation fishmonger at Hillers Fish Shop at Dunnington near Alcester and he has put in an order with fishermen in Cornwall to catch a Porbeagle shark.

The shark, likely to be around six foot long, is expected to arrive on Thursday , March 13, or Friday, March 14.

Big fish are no strangers to the Hillers Fish Shop. Last month they had a massive 40 kilogram halibut on their slab.

Mr Dyke said: "Due to the recent strong winds around Whitby we had to source our halibut from the Norway coast.

"Most of our fish comes from the U.K, but to avoid disappointing our regular customers we had no alternative but to go further afield for this fish, and they caught this monster for us. Now we're looking forward to getting a really big shark."

Winners of the guess the weight competition will get a hamper donated by Hillers and it will include some shark steaks.

The family run Hillers Farm Shop says it pleased to support the Abbots Morton bell tower appeal. The grade-1 listed St Peter's Church needs £40,000 worth of repairs to its 14th century bell tower. The appeal currently stands at £25,226.
