WEBSURFERS who just can't click quickly enough will feel a little more switched on following the Government announcement that additional funding of £3.68m will be made available to take the coverage of superfast broadband to 95 per cent of premises across Warwickshire.

The current £15.47m CSW Broadband contract with BT is able to achieve superfast coverage to 91 per cent of premises but the additional funding will enable the project to achieve a further four per cent of coverage, meaning more homes will achieve top speeds when it comes to their browsing and buffering.

Councillor Alan Cockburn, deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council, said: “We welcome this announcement as the provision of faster broadband will make a real difference to the quality of people’s lives and to the competitiveness of our businesses. This money will enable us to reach even more people, particularly in the rural areas.

"We have always said that the current project is just a stepping stone towards the EU target of 100 per cent coverage at 30 Megabits Per Second."

The funding is conditional on being matched and the council is currently seeking sources of new funding to allow the project to go ahead.

Further updates about the rollout will be made in the coming weeks.
