A VILLAGE near Inkberrow is hoping bell bottoms will help save a bell tower, as it holds a 70s disco to raise fund for vital repairs to its church.
A 70s style disco is being held next month in Abbots Morton Village Hall to help a £40,000 appeal for repairs to the 14th century bell tower of the parish's St Peter's Church .
It is the brainchild of David Smith, an Abbots Morton parish councillor, who has his own disco deck .
Mr Smith used to run a mobile disco in the 70s and he is promising an all-vinyl evening of nostalgia.
He says: "70s music was an eclectic mix of pop, disco, punk and soul. The night promises to be a true trip back in time."
The evening, on Friday, March 28 is being called Bell Bottoms for the Bell Tower .
The appeal chairman , Colin Pemberton, said : " We're saying that 70s style dress is optional but I've already got my long haired wig and flared trousers.
"The food is traditional too, what else could it possibly be but chicken and chips in a basket and Black Forest gateau?"
Tickets at £10 a head are on sale now from the DJ on 07766 815532.
The Abbots Morton Bell Tower Appeal has now reached £23,283 following a pledge of £1,750 from the Worcestershire-based Laslett's Hinton Charity .
