ALCESTER’S community cinema has been up and running now for six months at the Jubilee Centre, with a stream of ‘Golden Oldie’ afternoons held once a month and proving very popular with keen cinema-goers.

The cinema is run as a club, which means that the exact films being shown can’t be advertised to the public, and only once people have paid their entry fee and provided their contact details do they join a contact list to be informed about all the upcoming films being screened.

Screenings are run by volunteers, showing a classic movie every month followed by afternoon tea in the comfort of the Hertford Room at the Jubilee Centre.

The Alcester Cinema Club will post information telling people when the next screening is taking place, but for anyone not yet a member, the title of the film will remain a mystery until they join up, although keen film fanatics might be able to spot clues in some of the club’s posters.

Dates for the films are easy to find on the Alcester Town Council website, the cinema club’s Facebook page, and town notice boards, and tickets are £5 per person.

The next Golden Oldie afternoon will be taking place on Friday, March 14 with doors opening at 2pm for a 2.30pm start.
