MEMBERS of Smallwood Mosque are encouraging townsfolk to join them in raising money for people whose homes and lives have been devastated by the recent floods.

Nazir Hussain, who is secretary of the mosque, said they have contacted a group in Somerset which is raising money which will then be distributed to areas which have been hit the hardest by the atrocious weather.

Mr Hussain said: "So often we in England donate when a natural disaster devastates people's lives abroad, but we also have to help out when something of this awful nature happens at home.

"We know the money we donate won't rebuild what has been destroyed but we want to do whatever we can for these people, many of whom have lost their homes, their personal belongings, or their livelihoods."

Money can be donated at the mosque itself, in Smallwood Street, or people can call Mr Hussain on 07988 079748, and people will receive a receipt for their donation.
