CONTINUING the exciting season of events programmed in the Room Upstairs at the Palace Theatre, The Young’uns will be playing.

They may have established their fast-growing reputation in the folk world with sublime acappella harmonies, but the Teesside trio – Sean Cooney, Michael Hughes and David Eagle – are an unlikely force of nature on stage, beguiling audiences with irrepressible humour, bold vocals, gripping storylines and innate musicality.

Describing their gigs as "absolute chaos" they go on stage without set-lists, relying on infallible instinct and their unique rapport with audiences to deliver a killer show.

Their music is rooted fiercely in Teesside, especially Stockton, where they first started singing together at the local folk club, although they spread their wings on their glorious new album, When Our Grandfathers Said No.

The album includes a stomping French song, Pique la Baleine, a gorgeous unaccompanied arrangement of James Taylor’s You Can Close Your Eyes, some nifty instrumental work, a couple of rollicking shanties and plentiful strong original material from Sean Cooney.

A spokesman from the Palace Theatre said: "Don’t miss out on this fresh, new talent. For an uplifting evening of fabulous folk music in the intimate surroundings of the Room Upstairs make sure of your seat now.

The band will be playing on February 28 starting at 7.45pm.

Tickets are available in person or at the box office on 01527 65203 priced £10.75 (inclusive of booking fee 75p per seat up to a maximum £3).
