THE Alcester Victoria Silver Band is seeing big changes this year with a brand new musical director.
After many years with the band, Gordon Hartley-Bennett has decided to retire from his position and he’s set to be replaced by Danny Price, a composer, musician and arranger who will be taking over as the new musical director.
Mr Price has years of experience playing with local and international brass and big bands, as well as arranging pieces for the Black Dyke Band amongst others, and taking part in national brass competitions.
The Alcester Victoria Silver Band was formed in 1897 in a coffee house and plays regularly at town events including the Court Leet parade, the remembrance concert, and the annual street market. It also performs regularly at bandstands around Warwickshire and Worcestershire, with a strong regular core membership and several keen young members.
The band will be playing its next concert on Saturday, March 22 at St Nicholas’ Church in Alcester to welcome in the spring.
