FUNDRAISERS with Alcester Round Table have totted up the money raised through the charity annual Santa Float around Alcester and Bidford and named the ten local organisations which will be benefitting from the funds.

More than £3,000 was given to Santa’s helpers in street by street collections over the festive period as the Santa Flat made its way around Alcester’s roads, and travelled for the first time to Bidford.

The Alcester and Stratford District Round Table has decided to give £300 of the money to 10 different community organisations.

The recipients; Alcester First Responders, Alcester Town Football Club, Alcester Scouts, Alcester Guides, Coughton PTA, Temple Grafton PTA, Friends of Haselor School, Teddy Bear Corner, Alcester Nursery and Bidford Juniors Football Club, all received the money at a handover event at the Holly Bush pub last week.

David Plumb, chairman of Alcester and Stratford District Round Table, said: “This Christmas was one of our best ever for fundraising, with Santa coming to Bidford for the first time, and growth in membership enabling us to collect on 10 evenings, compared with eight in previous years.

“This is reflected in the sum raised and we were delighted to be able to present cheques to all of the organisations who supported us in the Christmas collections.

“In 2013 we changed our name to Alcester and Stratford District Round Table to recognise that our membership is drawn from Alcester, Bidford, Studley, Henley and Stratford. For Christmas this year we would love to take Santa to Stratford but to do that we will need some more members. Any men under 45 living in and around Stratford can find out more about what we do via Facebook.”
