A STUDENT from Alcester Academy is taking part in national elections to become a member of VOX Warwickshire and the UK Youth Parliament.

Joshua Ellis is seeking election to the Youth Parliament as part of the school’s citizenship programme, and if elected he’ll get the chance to raise issues with decision makers that could affect young people through VOX Warwickshire

The school will be borrowing polling booths and ballot boxes from Warwickshire County Council to conduct its elections, which are being organised by senior students in an effort to show the pupils how important it is to take part in the democratic process.

Members of the UK Youth Parliament can be anything from 11 to 18 years old, and as well as taking part in VOX Warwickshire, they will get to conduct a debate of their own in the House of Commons, with speaker John Bercow in charge of proceedings.
