IMPROVEMENT works to give residents an all-singing, all-dancing bandstand area in Church Green are now underway.

New pedestrian ramps, cycle racks and a new landscaping scheme are just some of the ways the area is being improved. It is also planned that the area around the bandstand and fountain will be resurfaced and new seating be installed.

Work started on Monday, February 3 and is expected to be completed by late March to early April, ready for the start of the New Town 50th anniversary celebrations.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “Improvements to the bandstand area have been in the pipeline for a while so it’s great that they are finally coming to fruition – and just in time to start our New Town 50th anniversary celebrations.

“When the work is finished I am sure this will be an even better place to sit and relax as well as being a great venue for our festivals and bandstand events. I would encourage anyone to contact us if they are interested in using the bandstand for their own events too.”
