A NEW record shop, which opened last week in Redditch town centre is already optimistic about how well the business is doing.

Death or Glory Records, which is owned by Steve Hadley, has been set up as a community interest company in partnership with the Job Centre, supporting young people not currently in employment or education to get work experience.

The shop also hopes to provide a platform for emerging local bands and artists, by selling their albums commission free.

Mr Hadley said: “The reason for opening a record store is simply Redditch didn’t have one, and for a town the size of Redditch not to have one is criminal.

“We’re hoping to be able to support young people back into employment and education, to give bands and artists the opportunity to sell their work and reach a wider audience, and to give opportunities to people that aren’t currently getting the support they need or deserve. It is massively important to support the talent that is on our doorstep.

“People in bands and artists alike dedicate time and their own money to the cause, the least we can do is encourage them and help sell their product.”

As well as locally produced music, the shop also stocks other new CDs and books, music t-shirts, artwork, and new vinyl for the traditionalists, as well as a pre-loved section where people can pick up more vintage tracks.
