A SPECIAL series of Shindig events which take place in village halls and other community venues throughout the county is about to kick off.

Shindig is Worcestershire's Rural and Community Touring Scheme designed to make the arts more accessible and bring art to the doorstep of local residents.

Now in its 10th year it is subsidised by Arts Council England, West Midlands and Bromsgrove and Redditch councils among others.

In the past it has attracted nearly 9,000 people from across the county who bought tickets to one or more of the Shindig events.

Sarah Benn, from Shindig, said: “We’re delighted to bring another exciting programme of live arts to your doorstep.

"There will be something for everyone, with spectacular music, uplifting theatre and world-class storytelling. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome and great night out."

The Shindig programme has a strong reputation for high quality music events and this season promises to be no exception.

Folk music favourites, The Churchfitters, will be back by popular demand.

Their lively shows include a variety of unusual and home-made instruments, plenty of humour, eccentricity and bags of toe-tapping fun.

The British band will be travelling across from Brittany for a concert at The Bridge Church in Headless Cross, on February 22.
