THERE was an opportunity last week for people to find out all about job opportunities, training and volunteering in Alcester.

The learning, volunteering and work event was organised by Warwickshire County Council Adult and Community Learning at the Jubilee Centre, with representatives attending from local further education colleges, the job centre, several local employers, Warwickshire VASA, and community organisations including the River Arrow Nature Reserve, the Court Leet, the Alzheimer’s Cafe and the CAB. One lucky Alcester resident Selina Sharp, even won a Kindle.

Phyllis Painter, development worker for community learning at Warwickshire County Council organised the event.

She said: “It went well we had about 40 people coming through. The job centre had a lot of interest from job seekers, there were a lot of people interested in volunteering and careers advice, and there was lots of interest for the River Arrow Conservation Group and for the Depot Youth Club. Plus we had a lovely drumming band, and there was art work. Some people. who were long term unemployed got involved in that.

"I’m really pleased. I’d like to do another one in Alcester, perhaps in the summer.”
