A TEENAGE survivor of a rare type of eye cancer has officially re-opened Vision Express Redditch following a major refurbishment.

13-year-old William Randall, from Bromsgrove, lost an eye to an eye cancer called retinoblastoma when he was a baby.

He is now an ambassador for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT), the nominated charity of Vision Express.

Alongside mum Barbara, William performed the ribbon-cutting honours at the Redditch store’s official launch.

With a refresh of facilities and equipment, the store will help deliver state-of-the-art vision services to the local community from its home in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, where it has traded from since 1989.

Store manager Joanne Morris said: “Our team have been providing optical care for over 20 years, and it’s fantastic to celebrate a refresh of our facilities.

"It’s wonderful to have William join us to officially opening our new-look home, on behalf of CHECT.

"His visit gives a real sense of how the money raised by our store and customers will help benefit families affected by retinoblastoma.”
