Even more on offer at Beoley's annual Snowdrop Festival this year
10:24am Thursday 9th January 2014 in News
FANS of St Leonard’s famous annual Snowdrop Festival won’t have to wait too long this year as the event is taking place a week earlier than normal.
This, the festival in Beoley will take place on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, February 8 and 9.
And this year, as well as the external dazzling display of white flowers which are such a welcome sign of spring, visitors old and new will be able to enjoy displays inside the 12th century church, including records of baptism which took place at the church from 1850 until 1980, courtesy of Worcester Records Office.
History enthusiasts can also view the Sheldon Tombs and a comprehensive display of historical records relating to the church, as well as some intricate work by Beoley Stitchcraft.
Joyce Bush, who is organising the event with the help of Ralph Richardson, said: “Everyone looks forward to our Snowdrop Festival as it really does lift the spirits to see these little valiant flowers peeping their heads above ground despite the cold weather.
“We hope that people from far and wide will come along and see the church and grounds which are lovely at any time of year, but with the added interest of what we are putting on in terms of displays, which should interest nature lovers and historians alike.”
The church and grounds are open for the event on the Saturday from 10am until 4.30pm and on the Sunday, from noon until 4pm, followed by the annual service of marriage affirmation to which all couples are welcome.
Refreshments will be on offer throughout the weekend – including a variety of the popular, warming, home-made soups, in the Tapestry Room.
