A STUDLEY company is encouraging its employees to take part in a charity cycle ride, which will take them the distance from Redditch to Arusha in Tanzania.

The ride is being organised by jewellery retailer the Genuine Gemstone Company to raise money for the Colourful Life Foundation, which funds research-based projects delivering long term sustainable benefits to communities in Tanzania through education, health and environmental projects.

The cycle challenge is all taking place on a static bike, with participants pedalling an impressive 6,867 miles throughout January, 24 hours a day.

The company is aiming to raise enough money to build five schools in Arusha.

Founder and CEO of the Genuine Gemstone Company, Steve Bennett, said: “Tanzania is a place close to my heart. Having sourced many beautiful Tanzanite gemstones from here over the years, it feels amazing to be giving something back. We work very closely with the Colourful Life Foundation and together want to make a change. There are currently over 400,000 children aged 7-13 years old in Arusha that are out of education because of the lack of resources. There is on average only one teacher to every 49 pupils and one toilet to every 54 pupils. With the help of our customers we have the opportunity to make a big change and the team at The Genuine Gemstone Company can’t wait to start cycling to show our support.”

The Colourful Life Foundation’s chief executive, Simon Barnes, added: “I am incredibly grateful to The Genuine Gemstone Company and staff for their support and commitment to raise money for the construction of safe and healthy schools in Tanzania. This effort is of such magnitude that it may well become a Guinness World Record.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the challenge can do so by clicking the ‘donate’ button when making any purchases from the company through gemporia.com JewelleryMaker or Gem Collector, or they can call the company on 0845 6588663 and make a donation.

The company will also be keeping people updated on the challenge on the ‘Gemporia’ Facebook page.
