A Redditch choir is supporting a world record attempt for the most people signing and singing on the same day.

The Redditch branch of Rock Choir will get involved in SignHealth’s sign2sing record attempt on Wednesday, February 5 at Studley Sports Centre on Abbeyfields Drive at 8pm.

Rock Choir leader for Redditch, Christa Hugo, said: “We are really looking forward to taking part in sign2sing. During the event all of our members will sing and sign True Colours by Cyndi Lauper. Learning to sign as well as sing will add a new and very interesting element to the song and we’re all really excited about the challenge. We hope that lots of people will go along to their nearest Rock Choir session and join with us in helping to raise money and awareness for such a worthy cause.”

The sign2sing attempt is national deaf healthcare charity SignHealth’s annual fundraising event.

Rock Choir was established in 2005, by award-winning singer and musician Caroline Redman Lusher and is the UK’s largest contemporary choir. There are no auditions and no requirements to read music, so everyone can join, and currently there are more than 16,000 Rock Choir members across the UK. The members learn specially arranged versions of pop songs which they perform at various events, many of which help to raise money and awareness for charity.

The record attempt takes place on Wednesday February 5 and SignHealth is asking people to get involved in various fundraising activities during the week of the event.

In 2013, 116,980 teachers and pupils from across the country took part in SignHealth’s third sign2sing event and broke the Guinness World Record. The previous record, which the charity also set was 114,277. The charity hopes to break its own record for the fourth time and involve more than 150,000 people. People wishing to take part in sign2sing are invited to register at sign2sing.org.uk.
