REDDITCH’S Palace Youth Theatre (PYT) group is holding an activity-packed open day in the new year for anyone thinking of joining up and their families, including for a new early years group.

PYT members and staff will be meeting and greeting at the open evening in the Alcester Street theatre, which will include have-a-go sessions of some of the group’s activities as well as tea and coffee for parents.

In addition to the established ‘Core’ group and the ‘Edge’ group for older young people, the new ‘Rise and Shine’ group for five to eight year olds is also now available at the PYT.

The Friends of the PYT will also be extending a warm welcome to prospective new members on the night and ‘Aim’, a group for 16-25 year olds with learning disabilities, will be on hand explaining what they do.

The enrolment event is on January 6 from 6pm until 7pm.

Redditch councillor Phil Mould, who is responsible for leisure and tourism, said: “The theatre turned 100 in 2013 and a main theme of the celebrations was that the future of local theatre belongs to our young people.

"The Palace Youth Theatre is a big part of that so if you feel your children may want to get involved, this latest enrolment day is a great opportunity.”

New members will be able to enrol straight into the youth theatre on the night if they wish, at the theatre’s box office.
