STUDENTS from NEW College were recently invited to see science theory put into action at the Alexandra Hospital.

The applied science class has been learning about x-ray, MRI and ultrasound scans, and students were taken on a tour of the MRI department as part of their latest module.

The £1.2 million MRI scanner is a state-of-the-art piece of machinery that is in operation around the clock at the hospital, so it's rare that students get the opportunity to see the equipment.

Physics lecturer Ann Crompton said: "We're really grateful to the Alexandra Hospital for supporting our students. Seeing the equipment and demonstrations really brought our lesson to life."

John Uren, superintendent radiographer, said: "Our MRI patient sessions are always fully booked, so it was tough to find time for these visits but really important for the class.  It was a pleasure to welcome local students into the hospital and show them what we do.

"I hope everyone enjoyed their time in the department, and that one or two were inspired to pursue a career in radiology in the future."
