REDDITCH Lions Club, together with all the Lions Clubs in the British Isles and Ireland, have committed to purchasing, and supplying directly, 1,000 Lifesaver Jerrycans to the Philippines.

These cans, costing £190 each, supply 20,000 litres of water that can be safely drunk or used for washing, or for showering in, at a cost of around 1p per litre.

Lions Clubs International has made available funds for the initial purchase of 112 cans. These are already being transported for distribution by local Lions clubs in the disaster area.

As with any disaster, Lions clubs and it's members that are in the vicinity can direct aid right to the spots where it is most needed.

To help, Redditch Lions Club members gathered in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre recently, to collect donations from generous shoppers.

A spokesman said: ""Thanks must go to the people of Redditch for their donations which totalled just over £400, which is enough to buy two Jerrycans."

If any readers were unable to make a donation at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre on December 9 but would still like to, they can contact Redditch Lions either through the website redditchlions.org.uk, by email, to secretary@redditchlions.org.uk or by calling 0845 833 5914.
