REDDITCH Round Table was recently thrilled to be able to donate two new defibrillator units to Redditch First Responders unit.

The defibrillators, which cost more than £1,000 each, provide life saving support for a range of conditions such as cardiac arrest, choking, heart attacks and strokes.

Redditch First Responders is a volunteer group working with the West Midlands Ambulance Service to provide life saving treatment to members of the local community. When a 999 call is made, the First Responders are dispatched to the address at the same time as the ambulance. As the First Responders are based in the local area they are usually first on the scene.

Those vital few minutes can make a huge difference to a patient’s treatment and recovery. While waiting for the arrival of an ambulance the First Responders complete observations, establish the medical history, and begin treatment with the defibrillators if required.

When Redditch Round Table’s members became aware that two more defibrillators were required by the unit they were keen to help as soon as possible.

Jason Robbins, a Round Table member, said: "Redditch Round Table is totally committed to ensuring that the funds that we collect are used in the local community. The First Responders' team of volunteers provides the community with an outstanding service and I am sure that everyone would agree that this is a very worthy cause."

Dave Tew, co-ordinator for Redditch First Responders praised Redditch Round Table’s donation, and said: "We were delighted to hear from Redditch Round Table. Donations and new equipment are essential for us to provide our service to the local community and we can’t thank the Round Table members enough for their support."

Redditch Round Table is always keen to hear from local groups and associations that want to volunteer time during charity collection events, such as the Christmas Santa Sleigh collection, and also from those groups that need support from the Redditch Round Table charity.
