STAFF and pupils at Great Alne Primary School are celebrating after their Ofsted rating was reassessed from ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good’.

The school previously had an inspection a year ago, which found the school to be satisfactory, and staff and governors have since worked to make the recommended improvements necessary to raise the school’s rating. They’re delighted with the new rating.

Headteacher Lesley Hendrie, said, ‘The report is a reflection on all the hard work and commitment of staff and reflects the achievements of our children and the support from parents. It is a wonderful report and gives us guidance to aim for ‘outstanding’ next time round.

“The Ofsted report states, ‘parents and carers spoken to during the inspection echoed the view that this is a harmonious and welcoming school in which behaviour is good and their children are kept safe’. Great Alne really is ‘a happy place to learn’ and the achievements of the pupils reflect this.”

The report did highlight several areas for improvement including ensuring that teachers keep a close check on the progress pupils make in the works set in lessons to be able to move on quickly, and making sure that teachers continue to check children’s understanding to quickly identify and correct any misconceptions, but attention was also drawn to many good points, with year six pupils exceeding expectations for their age in their work and school assessments, as well as being above the national average in mathematics and reading widely for purpose and pleasure.
