Sloppy Redditch hit by Cov Welsh comeback

Redditch 10pts Coventry Welsh 12
REDDITCH picked up a losing bonus point for the second week in a row, but will be kicking themselves again for handing the victory to the opposition.
Seemingly cruising 10-0 at half time, The Kingfishers conceded two soft scores straight after the break and then failed to breakdown the resilient Coventry Welsh defence.
It all began well with the Redditch pack exerting huge dominance in the scrum, but failing to get a higher penalty count than might have been expected. As a result, Redditch only came away from the first 20 minutes of pressure with three points from the boot of Lewis Saddington.
In the latter part of the half the pressure finally told and after some good phases of play. Saddington threw a long pass out wide giving Edwin Grey ample space to score with Josh Holt converting.
It all went horribly wrong in the second period when Redditch suddenly went behind in the space of minutes. A clearance kick was charged down by Coventry Welsh and they won the foot race to score. Shortly after, a high kick took a wicked bounce and ended up in the grateful arms of a chasing attacker to put the travelling team into the lead.
From that point on the home team struggled to regain control and find an incisive breakthrough. The pressure continued at the scrum, but Coventry Welsh made up for it at the lineout and in the loose play.
Redditch failed with a penalty attempt to regain the lead midway through the half and then had another attempt with the final kick of the game. Unfortunately, it was sliced just wide to the delight of the travelling support.
Redditch take a break from league action this week travelling to Bredon Star in the quarter finals of the North Midlands Vase competition.
