DIAMOND Buses has announced that as part of its continued investment in Redditch, it has purchased five new buses.
Town MP Karen Lumley officially launched the vehicles on Monday, October 7.
She said: “I am delighted to see that the investments promised by Diamond Buses to provide a new fleet of five buses for the 55-56 and 51 routes have come to fruition.
“With the restrictions placed by the Office of Fair Trading now thankfully over, I am confident that Diamond will be running excellent, reliable services for my constituents and very much look forward to the working with them to ensure that public transport in Redditch is of the standard which people rightly expect.”
Officers from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) launched an investigation into Diamond bus company’s £1.5million buyout of the First bus operation in Redditch and Kidderminster earlier this year.
Its aim was to look at whether or not the deal has lessened competition in the area.
But in August the OFT decided, on the information available, not to refer the acquisition to the Competition Commission under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.
Since March 2013, Diamond has replaced all step-entrance vehicles and it has acquired 19 additional vehicles for Redditch routes.
A company spokesman said: “This underlines our commitment to develop and improve services in the area and we would encourage you help shape the future of the services by completing our Network Review questionnaire. Please fill in the form online at diamondbuses.com or get one from your driver.”
