REDDITCH’S Kingfisher Shopping Centre has secured the leases of two family dining brands as part of the development of the centre’s new leisure quarter, The Hub.
Peri Peri chicken restaurant brand Nandos and oriental buffet chain Real China will both occupy 4,000 sq ft in the centre’s soon-to-be-created leisure quarter, The Hub. Both operators have taken 15 year leases. The restaurants will trade alongside a seven screen Vue cinema and a Pure Gym which has recently signed for a 16,000 sq ft fitness centre.
The centre contains more than 160 high-street retailers in a two-level, 920,000 sq ft mall. The centre sees over 185,000 visitors per week, shopping at stores such as Debenhams, M&S, Primark, Next, New Look, BHS, TK Maxx and Wilkinsons.
Work on the 35,000 sq ft ‘Hub’ development has already commenced, with Pure Gym set to open in December 2013 followed by the restaurants in Easter 2014. Capacity exists for two further restaurant units and discussions are ongoing with interested parties.
Ken Williams, centre general manager, said: “The retail environment has shifted considerably over the past year, filling high street brands with hope that the situation is turning round as people decide to spend more money.
“We’ve been in talks with a number of restaurants for some time now and we’re delighted to welcome both Nandos and Real China to the Kingfisher family. The Hub will mark a new era for the centre, making Kingfisher a true leisure destination offering not only shops but also numerous eating options, cinema and a gym.”
Iain Minto, retail asset manager for centre owners Capital & Regional, said: “The interest we have received from leading restaurant operators demonstrates the strong demand for catering space in Redditch. There is a clear consumer requirement for an improved leisure provision in the town and these lettings will enable us to deliver this, meeting the demands of our catchment.
“By tapping into the scheme’s potential, we are confident that we can position the Kingfisher Shopping Centre as a leading regional retail and leisure destination.”
