A REDDITCH singer has made it through to the regional finals of one of the biggest national competitions for unsigned artists in the UK.
Forget about X-Factor, Lucy May Walker will be performing at the Open Mic UK regional finals at the NEC Birmingham this Saturday, October 5.
The session singer, who recently graduated from the University of Cumbria with a first class BA (Honours) degree in performing arts, will be singing live in front of thousands of people and a music industry judging panel.
And if all goes well on Saturday, she will go through to the grand final at The O2 in London.
Lucy May, the winner of Worcestershire County Pop Icons 2008, said she was excited about performing.
“The competition is an amazing opportunity with the chance of winning a recording contract and playing at the O2,” she said.
Events coordinator Chris Grayston added: “Every year that we hold this competition the bar is raised and the quality gets higher and higher.
“For promising singers, songwriters, rappers and vocalists, this provides a real opportunity to open the door to a music career.”
