A MIDWIFE at the Alexandra Hospital has been recognised with a national NHS Hero award.
Helena White was honoured with an NHS Hero certificate for going above and beyond in her work with the African Maternity Health Link.
She has set up a link with a hospital in Sierra Leone.
As well as fundraising and campaigning for extra equipment for the Lumley Government Hospital, Ms White has visited the site in Freetown and used her expertise to support and teach midwives in a developing country.
She was recently joined by her team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for a surprise ceremony, celebrating the extraordinary work she does.
Maternity Matron Alison Talbot said: “We are all so proud of Helena’s work.
“It’s lovely that Helena’s contribution to the African Maternity Link has been recognised, she really has gone above and beyond.”
NHS Heroes 2013 is a recognition scheme designed to celebrate the unsung heroes in the NHS family.
Also presented with certificates were consultant breast surgeon Rachel Bright-Thomas, ward clerk Cath Joyner and head of access Heather Warner.
