Our Armed Forces are the 'bravest of the brave'

ON the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attrocities, Redditch’s MP Karen Lumley talked about her personal experiences as a participant on the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme (AFPS).
Mrs Lumley gave an emotional speech at a debate on the ‘Future of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Trust’ which took place in Westminster Hall.
She spoke about how seeing a young troop, who died fighting bravely in Afghanistan, inspired her to find out more about how the Armed Forces operate.
The AFPS has been running for more than 20 years and provides Parliamentarians with the opportunity to work with local regiments to develop an understanding of how the Armed Forces operate.
Mrs Lumley completed the enlightening course, which included a visit to Afghanistan where she met troops serving from Redditch.
She said: “I want to thank all our troops and make a special mention for the incredibly courageous 37th signals regiment (Redditch) for whom I served with as part of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme.
“Our troops who serve this country are the bravest of the brave and today I want to pay tribute to all those UK servicemen and women, including those from Redditch, who have served and are serving in some of the most troubled parts of the world.”
