London to Paris success for Cheryl and Michelle
12:20pm Friday 6th September 2013 in News
A REDDITCH woman and her friend got on their bikes and cycled from London to Paris in aid of a charity close to their hearts.
Cheryl Shepherd, aged 41, from Headless Cross, and her friend Michelle Price, cycled the 330 miles, completing it in just over four days, in aid of the National Brain Appeal. They chose this cause as Michelle Price’s mum has Pick's disease, which is a rare neurodegenerative disease that causes progressive destruction of nerve cells in the brain. There is no none treatment for it.
The women managed to raise an impressive £2,500 through generous sponsors.
Mrs Shepherd, who works for the University of Birmingham, said: “I had always been a keen runner but due to an injury, I had to give it up, so I started cycling instead.
“Michelle and I were discussing what we could do for the National Brain Appeal one day, and somehow we came up with the idea of doing the London to Paris cycle ride.”
Not satisified with completing this impressive challenge, the women are considering more in the future, including possible walking the Great Wall of China for charity.
They are still taking sponsors for the cycle ride. To donate, see www.justgiving.com/Cheryl-Shepherd1.
