A REDDITCH man went that extra mile to raise a superb total of £3,000 for Onside a Worcestershire charity providing support to local people and their families who are vulnerable and face isolation as a result of a disability, mental ill health or old age.
It took John Douglas 10 hours and 5 minutes to complete an ambitious 101km run around Arrow Valley Park in Redditch.
Mr Douglas displayed superb endurance skills by running the distance non-stop to raise the money for Onside.
Following the completion of his impressive run, Mr Douglas said: “I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me, turned up to cheer me on during the day and Sainsbury’s who supported Onside by providing refreshments and food.”
The £3,000 raised will enable Onside to provide 150 hours of one-to-one mentoring and advocacy support to help vulnerable people overcome obstacles in their lives, build their confidence and enable individuals to look forward to an improved future.
Kate Harvey, chief executive of Onside, said: “Every 30 minutes someone calls Onside for help. The need for our services is growing as the current recession has hit our vulnerable people and their families hard across the whole of Worcestershire.”
Onside is celebrating 20 years of supporting local vulnerable people to live better lives and has a sponsored 20km walk coming up to raise vital funds. All details are available at www.onside-advocacy.org.uk.
