Emma prepares for her Great North Run

A REDDITCH woman is busy preparing for the Great North Run, which takes place on September 15.
Emma Stone, aged 37, lives in the town with her husband Neil, who is also participating in the run, and son Matt and daughter Rebecca. She is raising funds for mental health charity Mind.
She is currently in training for the arduous event which is the world’s biggest half marathon, starting in Newcastle on Tyne and concluding in South Shields.
Mrs Stone has a strong affinity with the North as she was born in Halifax and attended Leeds Metropolitan University where she attained a degree in consumer services management.
She said. “This is the third consecutive year I’ve taken part in the Great North Run so I’m hoping that I will complete it, yet again, without injury or illness.
“As always I'm running for a charity close to my heart, to raise much needed funds for Mind. Every year one in four of us will experience a mental health problem and most of us know someone or have been affected ourselves by stress, depression or anxiety.”
For Mrs Stone, the demanding half marathon has come at a time when she is also embracing a new challenge in her career. She has recently been appointed associate director of sales and support at Worcester-based technology company Postcode Anywhere and has been overwhelmed by the support she has received from her colleagues.
She added: “Everyone here has been so kind and I am very near to raising my target of £300, which Postcode Anywhere will match fund if I am successful. I think Mind is a great charity to support because it works hard to dispel the stigma attached to mental illness as well as ensuring sufferers get the support and respect they deserve.”
