Alexandra Hospital's chemotherapy suite officially relaunched
4:00pm Sunday 1st September 2013 in News
A SPECIALIST chemotherapy suite at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital has been offfically relaunched following a major refurbishment.
The Garden Suite has been primped, polished and literally turned around to improve the experience of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, as well as their carers and relatives.
Patients and visitors will now find the suite’s treatment and waiting areas have been flipped, allowing the treatment room to have a more open and welcoming environment.
The refurbishments, which started last year, allow patients to be treated in a larger consulting room facing out onto the garden. The treatment area is now further from the main entrance to the suite, giving patients more privacy and dignity.
Sam Leonard, senior sister, said: “Patients can be in the treatment area up to eight hours a day, it makes such a difference for them to be in a brighter, more spacious environment.
“I’m really proud of what the team has achieved. We’ve managed to keep the suite up and running for patients while all these refurbishments have been made.”
And Penny Venables, chief executive, added: “You can clearly see the huge difference it’s made to patients and brings us another step closer to our aim of bringing the best possible, local care closer for cancer patients.”
