Now bus company can "get on" with improving services, following OFT investigation

OFFICERS from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) say they are now satisified with Diamond bus company’s £1.5million buyout of the First bus operation in Redditch and Kidderminster.
An investigation was launched to look at whether or not the deal has lessened competition in the area.
But the OFT has now decided, on the information available, not to refer the aquisition to the Competition Commission under the provisions of the Enterprise Act 2002.
Karen Lumley, Redditch’s MP, said she was is pleased that finally the Office of Fair Trading has decided to let Diamond buses get on and improve the bus services in Redditch after many months of uncertainty.
"I have held many meetings over the past few months with Diamond and am thrilled that they are now in a position to provide the services the residents here in Redditch actually want.
"They have been hampered by an investigation by the Office of Fair trading who I have also had many dealings with over the last few months.
"I am now looking forward to working with Diamond to ensure Redditch gets the bus service it needs and deserves. This news is good for the future of our bus service. Now we must get on and deliver improvements."
