Cashier struck in the face during assault at Iceland in Redditch
10:20am Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
POLICE are seeking witnesses to an assault by a customer on a member of staff at the Iceland store on the Trafford Retail Park at Redditch.
It happened on Sunday, August 18, at about 2.30pm after a man approached a woman working on the tills and started talking to her.
He was asked by another member of staff, a man, to switch to another till at which point an altercation broke out and an assault took place. The male cashier was struck in the face and suffered a minor injury which did not require medical treatment.
A 38-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and after questioning released on police bail until September 10 pending further inquiries.
PC James Hall, who is investigating, said: “We have spoken to staff at the store but we really need to hear from anyone else who was shopping there and saw or heard part or all of what happened. If they did witness something then it’s important they come forward and help our investigation. This attack appears to have taken place without any provocation.”
Anyone with information can contact PC Hall at Redditch Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 417-S-180813. Details may also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
