REDDITCH-based angling firm Maver are offering a life-changing prize at their annual ‘Mega Match This’ tournament.
A prize of £50,000 is up for grabs for the winner of the individual grand final, which is being held at Larford Lakes in Stourport.
On Saturday, August 31, 24 of the country’s best anglers will be in action.
There will also be an equally prestigious team championship event taking place on Sunday, September 1, which will see teams from Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and Poland in action.
Maver will pay out a total of £64,000 across both finals to confirm it as the one biggest event in the calendar for anglers.
The event first made history back in 2011 when a 23-year-old unemployed angler from Somerset walked away with a life-changing £50,000 — the one of richest prizes ever given in the history of the sport.
Last year, the event awarded Stourbridge-based angler Les Thompson £50,000 plus an additional £8,000 between second and third placed competitors.
The tournament is also open to the public and there will be refreshments available and toilets on site. Sky TV will also be filming Saturday’s action.
n Dark Lane AC held their Adrian Bayliss Trophy on the river Arrow at Alcester on Saturday and the winner was Max Claridge with 11lbs 11ozs.
In second place was Glyn Blewett with 8lbs 10ozs and Pete Lewis was third with 8lbs 7ozs.
The section winners were Tony Locket (4lbs 7ozs), Mick Keen (2lbs 15ozs) and Barry Blewett (2lbs 11ozs).
n Throckmorton AC had match secretary Phil O’Donnall take top spot with 11lbs 7ozs on the river at Coughton. Paul Murray (10lbs 4ozs) was runner-up and third place went to Bob Jarrett (9lbs 3ozs).
