Speeding drivers beware!
4:50pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
SPEED enforcement checks are continuing on the A441 The Ridgeway in Astwood Bank in a bid to bring speeds down.
At least half of all vehicles are still exceeding the speed limit on the 30mph section of the road and 15 per cent of drivers are exceeding 39.2mph.
The speed enforcement site first launched in June last year as part of the Safer Roads Partnership’s Community Concern programme, responding to residents’ concerns about speeding cars.
Although speeds have reduced slightly, there are still concerns.
Anna Higgins, communications manager at the Safer Roads Partnership, said: “Community concern sites are set up for an initial period of six months.
“We then carry out further analysis to see what’s happened. If speeds have reduced, we come out of the area. If not, we will stay there."
She added: “We will continue to target this road with our speed enforcement vehicles in a bid to bring speeds down even further - as we have done in other areas - which will improve the safety of the road for all those who use it.”
A parish-council owned vehicle activated sign (VAS) is also in operation near to the speed enforcement site, to further encourage motorists to comply with the 30mph limit.
