Archers able to reach new heights thanks to £50,000 boost

MEMBERS of an archery club are able to reach new heights thanks to £50,000 boost.
Redhill Archers, of Wythall Community Association, secured the money from National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities, part of an Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme.
It will be used to transform the club house into an “Inspired Facility” allowing members to practise and train throughout the year, whatever the weather.
It is also hoped that it will encourage new people to try the sport and then continue to participate for many years.
Redhill Archers club chairman, Dave Harris, said: “A lot of hard work went into this.
“The investment means we can now bring our premises up to a quality which will encourage the beginner into the sport and the elite archer to reach new heights.”
The club moved to Wythall Park in 1971 and has grown from 12 to a current membership of 62 and 22 social members – many of whom are retired archers.
People belonging to the club have achieved high rankings in the UK as well as shooting for archery GB and national teams.
Sport England’s chairman Nick Bitel, added: “A year on from the Olympics, this National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in Worcestershire.”
To help with the lasting legacy and to celebrate the cash boost, a special archery taster session will be held Saturday, August 17 at Wythall Park between 11am and 1.30pm.
