More volunteers needed for Mentor Link in Redditch
4:40pm Monday 5th August 2013 in News
A WORCESTERSHIRE charity is appealing for more volunteers to help with its Redditch work.
Mentor Link provides volunteer mentors for young people to listen to, support and befriend in Redditch, and aims to help create a more positive attitude towards learning and build self-confidence.
The charity is looking for volunteers to help out in several Redditch schools including St. Bede’s Roman Catholic Middle School, Kingsley College, St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic High School, Birchensale Middle School, and Ipsley CofE RSA Academy.
The charity uses volunteers from the local community to strengthen links with the various schools involved, and is particularly keen to speak to people involved in large businesses who might be able to give young people an idea of what would be expected of them by modern employers.
Andrea Maddocks MBE, chief executive and founder of Mentor Link, said: “Our focus is on the needs of young people and I am always inspired by the great response we get from volunteers who want to help and support them. Our main outcomes for the young people are around self-esteem and relationships and helping them to feel more positive about learning.”
The charity provides full training, free-of-charge for mentors, and asks for a commitment of a minimum of six months volunteering. Trained members of staff are there to support people in their role.
Anyone who can spare an hour a week, to befriend, support and encourage young people in school and would like to know more should contact volunteer recruiter, Karen Arnold, on 07875 438659, email Karen.email@example.com or visit www.mentorlink.org.uk.
A successful completed enhanced DBS clearance is required, which Mentor Link will arrange.
