Gritters roll out as weather worsens

THE council's gritting fleet is heading out onto the roads again as more snow is forecast.

Snow and sleet, as well as rain, is predicted on higher routes.

Accumulations of snow up to 6cm are possible, with up to 10cm in the north of the county, though this is expected to be a low risk.

Further outbreaks of sleet and snow are anticipated, with possible further minor accumulations, although these are expected to peter out over the weekend.

The county council's gritting fleet will be going out onto the roads, to treat those areas of the highway identified as needing additional treatment.

The fleet will then remain on standby, with crews ready to go out again at short notice, while the weather is monitored and road inspections carried out.

Drivers are once again urged to drive with caution, ensuring they temper their driving according to the conditions, and ensure they maintain a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance when roads are wet or icy.
