Youth arrested after female resident kicked in stomach

A YOUTH has been arrested after a Redditch resident was assaulted.

It happened in Hither Green Lane, Bordesley, on Tuesday, March 19.
Just after noon a woman in her 60s opened the door to a caller who she believed was a door-to-door salesman selling household items, but declined to buy anything.

A few moments later he came back, asking for the time. Soon after he returned for a third time, barged in and kicked her in the stomach. He fled when she called her husband, who was upstairs.

The woman sustained shock and discomfort but did not need medical treatment.

Residents, especially elderly or vulnerable people, are reminded not to open the door if they are not expecting or do not recognise a caller. If they do open the door, the advice is to use a door chain, if one is fitted.

On Tuesday evening a 15-year-old youth from the Middlesborough area was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail until May 8, pending further inquiries.
