Matthew delivers hunger message to Parliament

A REDDITCH man joined 500 supporters to make a spectacular appearance in London ahead of this week’s Budget.

Matthew Rickard, 25 and from Southcrest, appeared as Chancellor George Osborne at the heart of Parliament, brandishing an IF branded budget box.

He was joined by hundreds more, all dressed in suits and George Osborne head masks.

The event was part of Oxfam’s IF campaign which asks world leaders to tackle the root causes of hunger, including international aid and tax.

Mr Rickard said: "The UK Government will finally be meeting a promise made 43 years ago to commit to 0.7 per cent in aid, joining other countries such as Sweden and Norway so it is important that this is kept.

“It is a pledge that should be fulfilled to ensure food security for the most vulnerable people, female food producers, and to support projects on the ground.”

He added: “I think it is important to get together with like-minded people to show that actually there is huge public support for giving international aid."
