Fancy a flutter on a ferret?

THIS year’s Astwood Bank Carnival programme of events kicks off with a night of ferret racing.

Taking place at Astwood Bank First School the night will consist of a series of races with people able to have a small flutter on their favourite ferret.

Local businesses such as Pete the Meat, The Ironing Centre and Kendrick Homes, have already joined in the fun by sponsoring each race.

As with all events organised by the carnival committee the focus is on having fun while raising funds for local charities and community groups.

Now in its 26th year the committee has so far handed £150,000 back to the community.

Jenny Lightfoot, chairman of the Astwood Bank Carnival Committee, said: “This is a great way to kick off an exciting year of events that we have arranged.

“After this we have a quiz night, an open gardens event, a Teddy Bears picnic, a fun run, and of course the carnival and procession.

“The theme for this year’s carnival on July 13 is “Science: Fact or Fiction.”

The night of ferret racing, incluidng a bar, is on Friday, April 12 starting at 7pm.
