Redditch firefighters rescue girl stuck in mud
11:50am Monday 18th March 2013 in News
HEREFORD & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) was called to Pheasant Lane in Redditch on Saturday afternoon following reports that a girl had become stuck in mud, just near the Duck Pond pub.
The call was received just before 5.30pm and one fire engine from Redditch attended along with Water First Responders from Kidderminster, plus the water rescue boats from Evesham and Worcester.
Firefighters used ladders and other equipment to rescue a girl who was waist-deep in mud in a pond. She is believed to have been in the mud-filled pond for up to an hour.
Station Commander Dave Holland from HWFRS said: “The girl was cold but otherwise unharmed by her ordeal. However the outcome could easily have been more serious had she been there by herself and the alarm had not been raised.”
He urged parents to supervise their young children at all times near water, and also to make their older children aware of this incident and the dangers of playing near water and mud.
