Redditch group starting for people who have suffered a baby bereavement

A SUPPORT group for individuals and families who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or termination will start in Redditch on Monday, April 8 from 7.30-9pm. 

The group will meet every second Monday of the month at the Ecumenical Centre (Emmanuel Church) in the Kingfisher Centre, Redditch B97 4EX.

The group has been set up by local mums and the Spiritual & Pastoral Care Team at the Alex which helps minister to families which have suffered the tragedy of losing a baby. 

Chaplain Andrew Fisher said: “The death of a baby is one of the most profound losses parents can have to work through.

“There are few dedicated on-going support networks for bereaved parents in Redditch – the nearest SANDS and Miscarriage Association are in Worcester, Solihull or Birmingham.  We hope this group will be able to provide more local support and we welcome folk from any faith, culture or background.”

A group spokesman, Lindsay, said: “Losing a baby is one of the most devastating events that can happen in a women's life - and one of the least acknowledged. 

“We want parents to know even though it feels like their world has ended, they will have hopes and dreams again. Hopefully the group will help parents learn to live with their loss and they will get comfort knowing they are not alone and have had similar experiences. Just talking to the other girls in the group has helped me massively.”

The first meeting of the Redditch Baby Loss Support Group will give those who come the chance to meet and talk with Lindsay and others who have been in a similar situation. 

Kelly, another group organiser, said: “I’m very proud to be part of this special group. After the death of our lovely son Max, the months that followed were very bleak for us and I knew I wanted to help others as much as I could - I know it doesn't take away the devastation and pain of losing your child but having a safe supportive place to go can be such a lifeline."
