Learn how to keep your property safe during an event at Sainsbury's in Redditch
4:10pm Wednesday 6th March 2013 in News
REDDITCH residents will be able to get the latest advice from police and council officers on keeping their belongings safe, at a PACT meeting in Redditch Sainsbury’s this Friday, March 8.
From 10.30am until 4.30pm in the supermarket at Abbey Trading Centre, residents will have the opportunity to get advice and buy discounted SmartWater kits, used to permanently mark and protect belongings, at the PACT (Partners And Communities Together) meeting.
More than 1,000 such kits have already been distributed in Redditch through a partnership of West Mercia Police and Redditch Council.
On the day residents will also be encouraged to sign up to the national property register www.immobilise.com, which is checked daily by all UK police forces and vastly increases the chances of victims of burglary receiving their property back - as well as increasing the likelihood of a conviction against a criminal caught in possession of the property.
This event is being run to compliment other police-led campaigns including Operation Citadel and Operation Defend to further reduce burglaries in Redditch, which already has one of the lowest burglary rates in Worcestershire.
Redditch councillor Rebecca Blake, who is responsible for community safety, said: "Property marking is a real deterrent to would-be burglars, and over 1,000 marking kits have already been distributed in Redditch.
"I hope lots of people will take this opportunity to speak to the police and council staff and take up the offer that will be available. Our thanks to Sainsbury’s for hosting this event."
People should look out for more PACT events across Redditch soon, where the police and council will be working together to offer useful advice to residents.
